About the original stamp
The cedar at the heart of this design is the emblem of Lebanon itself — the same tree that stands at the centre of the national flag. Lebanon issued its first definitive postage stamps in 1925, a series built around the Lebanese cedar alongside the country's cities and monuments. The cedar motif endured for decades across successive "LIBAN POSTES" definitive issues, including low-value piastre stamps like this 0.50 — their finely engraved trees rendered in dense black line-work against a pale ground.
More than postage, these small engravings carried a national symbol around the world: a tree prized since antiquity, woven through the region's history and scripture, and standing to this day as the enduring image of Lebanon.
